ATaC suspends training and qualifications

ARCA/ATaC is continually reviewing its operations in light of the current COVID 19 threat, and this morning took the decision to cease all training and qualifications until further notice.

Existing bookings for training and qualifications will be honoured and rescheduled as and when the situation allows.

The Association has postponed face to face meetings, utilising video conferencing and will continue to do so.

The HSE are expected to take a pragmatic view on all issues related to COVID-19, they understand the difficulties faced by the asbestos management industry at the moment.

With regards to training certificates which are expiring, the most important thing is that the employer has confidence and ‘some’ evidence (this may be a recently expired training certificate), that the members of the site team that are put to work on licensed asbestos removal work, are competent.

If this is the case, then under the current circumstances, i.e. that training is not generally available at the moment, ARCA/ATaC does not believe HSE will expect training that is currently expiring to be renewed at the moment. ARCA/ATaC is expecting HSE to confirm this in the near future.

The Association will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and will provide further updates as necessary.
