Aims
To provide the theory, practical knowledge and skills required for use of microscopes and fibre counting to WHO rules, air sampling and 4 stage clearance procedures. This course is based around HSG248 Asbestos: The analysts guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.
Assessment
The candidate is assessed on their practical competence during the course which culminates in a written exam (short answer questions). The exam is set and administered by RSPH and subject to successful completion of the exam and practical tasks will lead to the attainment of the certificate.
Course Content
Unit One: Health, safety and legal aspects relating to asbestos.
Unit Two: Theory of air sampling, fibre counting and clearance procedures for asbestos analysts.
Unit Three: Practical air sampling, fibre counting and clearance procedures for asbestos analysts.
Unit Four: Use of Decontamination Units and H type vacuums.
*Candidates should have prior knowledge of all areas which are defined within the qualification syllabus.
