ATaC Chairman on the BBC News

There is still a problem with Asbestos Management in Schools as highlighted at the beginning of the year within the report published by ATAC. The report hit the headlines and received vast amount of press coverage. John O’Sullivan (ATAC Chairman) undertook various television interviews for BBC Breakfast, BBC News and ITV News, John Richards (ATAC management committee member) undertook interviews for Radio 5 Live. There were also over twenty separate news articles within various local and national newspapers including The Telegraph, The Independent, The Daily Mail, The Express and The Daily Mirror.

Everyone involved with the campaign have been pleased at the coverage which has helped raise awareness of the issue and now the Government has set up a committee to address the problem of asbestos in schools. The members of the committee are experts in their various roles and are hoping to develop working plan to address the issues raised within the report. The committee are awaiting announcement of the new chairman with the change of government because unfortunately Paul Rowen lost his seat at the general election, Paul has helped raise the profile in Parliament and has helped with great advances in the last twelve months since the group met with the former Prime Minister.

ATAC will continue to push forward with the issue and undertake the audits of schools to compile a second report which is planned to be released later this year.
